World War II Bronze Star Medal presented to Private First Class Frederick Quigg, who assumed command of a machine gun squad at Iwo Jima after the squad leader was killed. A letter from then Secretary of the Navy John L. Sullivan accompanies the medal elaborating on the leadership and bravery of Quigg at Iwo Jima. The lot also includes a USMC press release, a newspaper photo of Quigg and Quigg's signed Selective Service registration certificate. The 1'' x 2.75'' medal has light wear, with still bright fabric and working clasp.
