This ivory figure is a presentation of Shoulao, the Daoist god of longevity, and was crafted in China during the late Qing dynasty (1644-1911). Shoulao is rendered with his typical large bald head and long, finely carved beard. A smile is visible in his face and the hems of his robe show an engraved and blackened décor. The deity holds with a peach in his right hand, which is an important and very popular symbol in China. The peach is a symbol for immortality in gods and for longevity in humans. His second attribute, a gnarled walking stick, can be seen in his left hand. The latter shows as well as the lower area open work and a small gourd is attached on the top. The gourd is a symbol of the micro and macrocosm. The ivory figure is even more beautiful due to the fine yellowish patina and the carving follows the natural direction of the tusk.

The ivory figure is in good condition with slight signs of wear consistent with age. Small drying cracks and minimal chips on the edges of the garment and the leaves (signs of age) can be seen. The height measures 28.5 cm.
