Russian physiologist (1849–1936) best known for his investigation of conditioned reflex through the use of experiments involving salivating dogs; he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1904. Signed book in Russian: Conditioned Reflex: Twenty Years of Objective Study of the Higher Nervous Activity (Behavior) of Animals. Fifth edition. Leningrad: Leningrad Medical Publishers, 1932. Hardcover, 6 x 9, 508 pages. Boldly signed and inscribed on the reverse of the frontispiece portrait in Cyrillic (translated), "To the most honorable Boris Dmitrievich Nakhodkin, from the author, 21.XI.1932." Autographic condition: very good to fine, with overall toning and soiling. Book condition: G+/None, with first free end page detached by present, cracked and worn hinges, edgewear, and rubbing to spine. A highly desirable, uncommon inscribed example of a seminal work in 20th century science.
