Italian or Austrian sword with 36” flamboyant blade, chiseled and pierced hilt with gold gilting. Approx. 42” overall, 34-1/2” blade. The guard, quillons, and finials are in an acorn shape. The pommel Is somewhat similarto an artichoke. The grip area is pierced in scrolls matching to the guard. The overall quality of the workmanship is excellent. There is some scattered pitting and erosion to the blade and the blade is nicely forgedand appears to be a genuine antique. The hilt, pommel, and grip show 30-50% gilt. An old tag attached to the guard mentions the gold museum in Peru which was the collection of Mohico Gallo, a famous old-time collectorwho had one of the best European arms collections in America. We could find nothing to reference the date or country of origin of the sword, but it is a genuine antique without doubt and could date anywhere fromthe mid 17th to 19th century.
