This buckler was made in the late 16th/early 17th century in Italy. A similar one is talked about and pictured on pages 105 and 106 of "The Complete Encyclopedia of Arms & Weapons" by Leonid Tarassuk & Claude Blair. This buckler has strapwork lines and circles with a lantern hook in the center. There are bronze swirled rivets on the inside of the rolled edges. There is a riveted rolled steel handle with a strap across the top with 2 oval spots for your thumb. Measures 12 1/2 inches wide x 13 1/4 inches tall. Provenance: The William Ashby Collection
