This fine example of an Italian fowling piece that was manufactured circa 1730-40 and is unsigned. The Damascus barrel has a turned bands between the round and octagon sections with two silver inlaid crescents at the breech, gold lined vent and silver sights. The action is scroll engraved with the rear of the lock plate featuring an engraved seated warrior surrounded by military trophies. The silver side plate has scrolls which incorporate a head of a mythical creature and a Roman Emperor's head medallion in relief. The nicely figured full length stock features a fluted buttstock and a trigger guard also of rootwood. The trigger guard is decorated with a silver strap featuring an elaborate grotesque mask in relief and craved accents are featured at the front and rear. The stock also features a silver barrel band and buttplate, both with scrolls and classical heads in relief. The pattern on the buttplate tang has a male head and a collection of weapons and the barrel band has a female head in a cartouche. The plain faceted ramrod pipes are silver and hold a wooden ramrod with silver tip.

Very good. The steel parts have a mottled brown-gray patina with traces of Damascus pattern on the barrel. The silver is fine. The stock is fine with a few repairs on the buttstock and some minor handling marks. The engraving is crisp. Mechanically fine.
