A finely crafted and polychromed terracotta bust of a noblewoman in Renaissance style, attributed to the Florentine sculptor F. Maggiolini. The figure is modeled with elegant poise, displaying delicate facial features and wearing an elaborately detailed gold and blue headdress with ornamental latticework and gilded floral motifs. Her hair is styled in tight braids flanking the face, evoking 15th-century Italian portraiture. Strikingly reminiscent of the renowned "Bust of Jeanne d'Armagnac," this piece echoes the serene beauty and sculptural refinement found in the works of Francesco Laurana and his circle, suggesting a deliberate homage to late Gothic and early Renaissance courtly ideals. Stamped underside: F. Maggiolini / Via Aretina 85 / Firenze, with impressed inventory number 78. The stamp and sculptural quality suggest a workshop operating in Florence in the late 19th to early 20th century, during the Renaissance Revival period. The bust likely served as a decorative studio piece or Grand Tour souvenir. The sculpture retains much of its original hand-applied polychrome and gilded finish, showing natural age-commensurate wear, with minor rubbing to high points and base edge. Hollow-bodied and well-balanced, it displays beautifully from all angles.
