In part: “I thought I’d tell you that whenever the play had been produced, I was asked to play the part of ‘Aunt Alicia’…and when it was done over here with Leslie Caron, I was asked again. Unfortunately on both occasions something happened to prevent me doing it…I’m wondering if it’s going to be one of your productions, George?—as I know from Gilbert Millar you were interested in it at one time. If so, I can’t tell you how much I would like to be in the film version.” In fine condition. Vincente Minnelli, not Cukor, ended up directing the film, but Jeans did indeed secure the role she desired.
