The brushstrokes and coloring of this plein-air study reflect Levitan's awareness of the revolutionary work of Monet. His contemporary, Konstatin Korovin (1861-1939), whom he befriended at the Moscow School of Painting, was quite taken with the lush coloring and brushwork of the French Impressionists. While Levitan followed the art world in Berlin, Paris, Vienna and Munch, and exhibited at the Munich Succession, his landscape paintings are viewed as poetic odes to the Russian Motherland.
Condition Report: Overall good condition, surface grime, minor loss to upper and lower right corner, pin prick to top center of the panel

Shipping: Requires 3rd Party Shipping (view shipping information)
