Renowned and durable American concert violinist (1920–2001). Archive of approximately 90 letters, photographs and ephemera from Stern, ranging in date from the 1960s to the 1980s. This remarkable archive includes four ALSs from Stern, each signed “Isaac,” two TLSs, also signed “Isaac,” as well as many 1960s retained carbon copies of correspondence between Stern and his secretary, his wife Vera, his accountant, manager, and Sir Isaiah Berlin. Collection also includes publicity photos by Hurok Attractions (Stern's managing agency), candid photos by his secretary, concert programs, family holiday cards, a typed manuscript speech delivered to the American Jewish Cultural Foundation. One letter, dated April 4, 1967, reads, in part: “I am in europe for 6 weeks–started in London last week. Now here for 5 days (Vera arrives tomorrow) and then 3 weeks in Italy—10 concerts but am planning to do most of it by car. Should be nice. Back home on May 7th–N.Y. Phil concerts (Boston with L.B.) Then Los Ang., San Fran, Montreal & New York (Linc. Center) with the trio.” In overall very good condition. Unique collection of mostly informal narratives of personal news and business matters that reveals a caring nature and dear friendship between Stern and his secretary.
