Manuscript DS, signed Isaac T. Hopper, one page both sides, 7.75 x 12.75, September 1, 1809. Manumission document related to a "negro lad named Jeremiah," which begins with current owner Eliezer David asserting that the former will be set free "when he shall come to the age of thirty five years, he now being twenty one." David, on the reverse, then for "the sum of one hundred and forty six dollars and sixty seven cents," assigns and transfers to Isaac T. Hopper "seven years of the unexpired term of service referred in the within mention manumission and relinquish to the within named Jeremiah the remainder of the time." At the conclusion, Hopper then proceeds to assign all right, title, and interest of Jeremiah's unexpired term of service "to Richard Strode, Jr., of East Bradford Township Chester County." Signed neatly along the bottom by Hopper, with the front also countersigned by James Booth, Sr., who served as the Secretary of State of Delaware (1778-1799) and the Delaware Supreme Court Chief Justice (1799-1828). In fine condition, with scattered light stains.
