American writer (1893–1976). Fineman first attended MIT and did advanced work for Harvard University, going on to become an engineering instructor. He left his engineering life behind to pursue the path of a freelance writer, which produced plays, short stories, poems, and novels. His 1932 novel, Lovers Must Learn, was adapted into the 1962 film, Rome Adventure. TLS signed in green pencil, one page, 7.25 x 10.75, personal embossed letterhead, October 14, 1964. Fineman responds to a collector, in part: “Having been trained in engineering at MIT…I like things functional, as a signature on a blank card seems to me meaningless and useless. I am not signing those cards you sent me, but am sending you this signed letter, which is a means of communication…For my views on life I suggest especially my novel Jacob which is highly-autobiographical—a projection of my own life experience into the Biblical character…And if your heart condition restricts your physical activity, it does give you plenty of time for reading…as my own frailty as a child made me an omniverous reader and finally that made me a writer,” adding a vertical post script in green pencil, “Sorry I do not have a photo I can send you so I am sending you a poem instead which is also a picture of me and my philosophy.” In fine condition, with a central horizontal and vertical fold.
