Irish brass cannon-barreled blunderbuss with flared bell-mouth muzzle marked “Dobson, Dublin” and original period inscribed on barrel “Gift of MR. W. M. Nun SENR to D. Peet Newtown”. The gun measures approx. 30-1/2” overall with14-3/4” barrel. The barrel is made in three stages, octagon at breech to round barrel, and barrel shows a pronounced bell mouth, and is flared to almost 2” across the barrel flats with nearly 1-1/2” bore. The barrel is additionally Irish registration marked “DC5303” which we believe to be from the county of Cork. The gun remains in very good original condition with original flintlock showing correct hammer, top jaw, frizzen, and small parts. The lock shows some light to moderate pitting and erosion and a dark patina with some slightly heavier pitting at firing area. The barrel shows some light cleaning and sharp edges. The stock is very good with minor scratches, mars, slight imperfections, some weathering, and just normal wear. An original to the period horn-tipped ramrod is included. Generally very good overall. Very few blunderbusses are found inscribed and this one would be an interesting project to research and the trail would begin between Dublin and the county of Cork. Circa approx. 1750 to 1780. Est: $2,500 - $5,000
