Ireland. Charles I, Kinsale Farthing, Spink 6563,
Charles I, Kinsale Farthing, Spink 6563, KM74 (where it is incorrectly listed as a Shilling), squarish copper flan, Obverse: K (dot) S in a circle of dots with what appears to be "53" below. The reverse features a crude chequered shield. The description in the Spink book does not include the "53" date, but it is clearly on the coin, and the similar square Farthing of Youghal has the date below YT. Is it possible that no previously studied Kinsale Farthing has been well-struck or well-centered enough to include the date? This is a rare and fascinating issue of the Southern Irish "Cities of Refuge" during the time of the Great Rebellion. Very crude VF.
