Inyo Mining Company Document Group
A group of 5 pieces relating to the Mountain Spring Canyon Mines, Ltd. from 1930-31. The mine was located in the Argus mining district in Mountain Springs Canyon, 20 miles n.e. of Brown, a station on Owens Valley Branch of Southern Pacific Railroad. The mine composed 20 claims, known as the Convention Group. Company officers included I.C. Lewis as president and J. Torrance as secretary, with an office in Los Angeles. 1) Two page typed report from 1931 re: the property by F.O. Martin, mining engineer. Martin was advising the company on it’s development plans. Word “COPY” typed diagonally at the top. 2) Two page typed report re: the property by consulting engineer, J.T. Shinnin of Los Angeles. Word, “COPY” typed at the top. 3) One page sheet from the State Corporation Dept. of the State of California authorizing the company to issue shares of common stock. 4) Crude sketch of the claim layout at the property drawn in black pen. Drawn on the back of an oil company letterhead from L.A. Other claims adjacent include Gold Coin, Annex, Grand View and Los Angeles. 5) Two page subscription agreement to sell stock valued at $17,500 to finance the company’s development work as recommended by F.O. Martin, the mining engineer. Spaces on page 2, where names of subscribers and amount of shares subscribed for could have been filled out (all left blank). Documents are in old, funky condition but entirely readable. Documents 1 and 2 are not present day copies, but period copies from the 1930’s. Interesting group.
