Inventor Robert Fulton Clipped Signature
Inventor Robert Fulton Clipped Signature, 3” x 1.25”. Accompanied by an engraved color portrait (Philadelphia: Delaplaine, 1815) after a Benjamin West painting. The signature is bold and in very fine condition. Robert Fulton (1765-1815) is often erroneously credited as the inventor of the steamboat. His legacy lay, rather, in making maritime steam power commercially viable. Fulton's historic moment came in 1807 when he launched the North River Steamboat (later Clermont) on a successful journey upriver from New York City to Albany.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
