<B>Inventor Robert Fulton Clipped Signature,</B></I> 3” x 1.25”. Accompanied by an engraved color portrait (Philadelphia: Delaplaine, 1815) after a Benjamin West painting. The signature is bold and in very fine condition. Robert Fulton (1765-1815) is often erroneously credited as the inventor of the steamboat. His legacy lay, rather, in making maritime steam power commercially viable.
