For your consideration is this beautifully crafted parfleche seal skin scrimshaw done by White Mountain Tribe (Inuit) member Ralph M. Kowchee (1939-2003) in 1973. This piece of artwork has been done on a piece of parfleche seal skin, making this a scrimshaw piece from the White Mountain Tribe (Inuit). It shows a man rowing in a canoe coming back or going to a fishing expedition. He is bundled in warm clothes and has a bag on the back of his canoe as the sun or moon shines down from above. It is signed in the bottom right hand corner in black ink reading, "Ralph M. Kowchee / Alaska '73". It is set in a plastic frame and shows good condition overall with little to no wear present on the artwork or frame. The piece measures 8 1/8" L x 10 1/8" W and weighs 7 ounces.
