Named after its discoverer, G.T. Bowen,
bowenite came into vogue in Europe in the
late 19th century and was also widely used by
Fabergé in St. Petersburg.
Hardstone carvings of farm animals in
bowenite abound in the Fabergé collection of
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at
Sandringham. The English Royal family also
owns the most famous of Fabergé?s bowenite
creations: The Imperial Colonnade Egg which
Tsar Nicholas II presented to Alexandra
Feodorvna in 1910.
