Interesting variation of a Colt SAA revolver, 44-40 cal., 5-1/2” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, smooth Colt medallion wood grips, #340416. This gun is in overall excellent condition showing approx. 97% original blue finish on barrel assembly, cylinder and straps with approx. 93% original case colors on frame and hammer; fine bore, crisp action, sharp markings and excellent grips that may be a later addition but fit this revolver nicely; the front sight has had a small dot of ivory added at the rear top for better sight acquisition. The cylinder shows additional rectangular stops between each regular stop. Factory letter confirms all features except stocks that are “Not Listed”, shipped to W. E. Hart, unavailable address, on September 25, 1920, one gun is shipment. The consignor has included a copy of a 1930 U.S. Census summary on a W. Esley Hart of Bates, Greenville, South Carolina and a copy of a page from R.L. Wilson’s Book of Colt Firearms showing an example of a SAA Flattop that has the same additional factory safety slots on the cylinder periphery for positioning between chambers.
