Interesting period double casing for Colt model 1849 pocket models with varying barrel lengths, configured for one 5” and one 4” small guard. The case is lined with purple velvetine and is in our opinion definitely original to the 19th century and probably dealer or jobber supplied. The condition is very good plus with some indentions, wear at contact points, slight fraying, normal and proper aging. The case contains a lacquered flask with leaf design, which is in very good condition and is most probably American made. A .31 caliber pocket model mold with approx. 80-90% original blue just toning and excellent cavities. A nipple wrench in fair condition. A box of paper cartridges for Colt pocket model in fair condition. The case also retains one of its two original compartment covers and an original key. The exterior of the case is good to very good with some minor scratches, mars, stress cracks, etc. but at least very good. And the box itself, hinges, hardware etc, just the type found with Colts. In 40 years of selling fine colts, this is the only period case we have examined for a five and four-inch varying barrel length set. The condition of the case warrant pistols with 50 to 90% finish in our opinion. A rare Colt accessory. Est: $2,000 - $4,000
