Interesting “out-of-the-attic condition massive full stock flintlock rifle, .42 cal., 61” heavy octagon barrel, wood stock with iron patchbox. This gun has two interesting typed letters, dated September 14, 1986, signed by a Franklin S. Peart indicating this rifle had hung in the office of the president of Sprague and Carleton, Inc. (furniture maker) of Keene, New Hampshire, for many years and was ultimately given to Mr. Peart by the company’s president’s (Howard Page, Sr.) widow. In the letter, Peart states that Sprauge and Carleton was responsible for making Winchester stocks and handguards for the M-1 carbine during WW II and almost totally ceased making furniture for the duration of the war; a furniture sales company lost their inventory in a fire and Mr. Page went out of his way to make some replacement furniture and ship it to the customer. That un-named customer later sent Mr. Page “one huge gun and a tiger tail stocked Kentucky rifle with assorted bullet molds, powder horns and deerskin shoulder bags”; the letter further indicated “the monster was Daniel Boone’s favorite stockade gun.
