Interesting ensemble consisting of European military pistol, probably French or Belgain, converted from flintlock to percussion, brass tacked, fair condition, wood shows losses and opening around the metal, a great deal of repair, refinish, restoration, and cleaning. The pistol is contained within a hand-made old carrying case which straps it in the lid. The case contains traps, tin cup, compass, small pocket telescope, knife fork and spoon, and a 19th century powderhorn that is painted in carved decoration “I have hunt, fish, and trapped in VA and KY, and Mar.la since yr 1847. Mt. in Va please…” The rest illegible. The horn is crudely homemade. Most interesting is a map measuring approx. 23” by 17-1/2. Hand-drawn and compiled 1799 by James D. Lee. Map is hand drawn and laid down on paper, and posted to a heavier material. The map is finely drawn and in good condition, showing Daniel Boone exploration areas, and other information. The ma has long been included with this set, which shows the initials VAM 1849 on its top. The exterior of the case is painted red and shows brass hardware with green felt interior. With a small gaming set containing cards and pegs for cribbage. Est:
