Interesting brass-barrel blunderbuss with tower and GR lock showing crown and heavy bell-mouth brass cannon barrel which is period script engraved “Cavite Hacienda de Recoletos en Ymus 6 / licencia para usarla 3 de Enero de 1842”. The breech is also engraved with R in circle with sunburst at top. The left side of the breech shows British proofs and TH barrel maker’s stamp. The lock and breech show conversion to percussion from flint. The lock markings are period forgeries and of the type known to be found on Mexican arms of the 1830’s and 40’s, including muskets used in the Alamo. These British arms were always popular and Mexico was a prime market for forged British arms. The stocking is typical Mexican or South American, as are the mounts, buttplate, and bracket. The bracket mount to be used as wall gun. The overall condition is good to very good showing some pitting on the lock. Brass shows good patina. Stock shows some dings, mars, slight losses, and poor fitting around the lockplate. A period ramrod is included. The action is good, engraving on the breech is very deep and appears genuine in style. From an old Texas collector. The gun measures 39” overall, 22” heavy canon type
