Interesting Moore Teat Fire 6-shot revolver, period script inscribed “presented to Hon. Wm. F. Stearns” on backstrap and “by C B Phillips” on the inside of the frame at gripping area. The barrel and cylinder show an old re-blue finish, theframe was lightly cleaned long ago, the grips are good, the gun is numbered G06. A documenting letter from noted author and firearms expert, Lee Silva, is included, which in summary states William French Stearns owned a prosperousmercantile store in Bombay, India during the 1850’s and ‘60’s where he met Dr. David Livingstone. When the Doctor “disappeared”, and Stanley found him, uttering the now famous words: “Dr. Livingstone, I presume?” many felt at thetime, that Stanley had not found Livingstone but Stearns was a key witness who identified Livingstone’s writings which were finally accepted as genuine, mainly due to Stearns. Included in the file with this historic piece are additionalmaterials on the Stearns family, including information on Stearns’ father who was President of Amherst College in Massachusetts and at the outbreak of the Civil War, raised a unit in support of the Union. Stearns, Sr. would later be
