Interesting Group of Centennial Cap Toys in cast iron. A very hot collecting area is that of cap pistols and toys. These 1876 cap toys were made for the 1876 Centennial held in Philadelphia and were marketed as souvenirs. The cap gun is 4.75" from handle to barrel's end and is embossed with the date of 1876 in the handle. In excellent working condition, this piece shows only minimal wear and has much of its original patina.

One of the rarest we have seen in any collectible is this 1876 bell shaped cap bomb. This toy was intended to have the piece thrown or popped against the a hard surface to make the noise. If the toy was badly cast it would often break the bomb. Fortunately, this piece is excellent and one we have never seen before at 2" tall.

The third piece in this lot is our mystery piece. Elaborately cast and with a mechanical cylinder in the center, the piece evades us as to its use. Perhaps it is just some sort of novelty related to the Centennial with no particular purpose. It was at the 1876 Centennial that many iron works manufacturers displayed these novelties to impress the public with their work. This piece is no exception in that it presents near mint with great detail in it's casting. This is a grouping that, whatever your interest, will not disappoint.
