Interesting Colt Pocket Navy 36 cal percussion revolver, 4-1/2” barrel exhibition quality bank note scroll engraved, barrel marked “L. HOLLIS & SONS LONDON”. The left side of the barrel is inscribed with whatappears to be Arabic writing possibly the original owner, a prayer or motto. The metal surfaces were polished and Colt address removed in the 19th century with Fiollis’ name cut in block letters where address waslocated. The scrolls are very tight and well engraved as one would expect from London engravers during the 19th century. The pistol shows 50-70% original blue which is drifting and toning. The grips fitimpeccably and show 50% varnish which was applied at time of engraving. All matching serial numbers, number 11137. The action is good, the edges are crisp. The inscription is intriguing and should be researched as itmay be historically significant in the fact that the Sultan of Turkey, King of Egypt and gold Sultan of India were all gun collectors.
