Interesting Colt Model 1877 DA revolver with an inscription on the backstrap “Overland Express Co.” followed by a star with “No. 3” inside; .38 cal., 4-1/2” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, checkered hard rubbergrips, #135752. This gun is in overall very good condition showing an even brown patina on metal surfaces with some scattered spots of erosion and pin prick pitting, good markings, fair bore, action needs work, allmatching visible serial numbers; grips are worn but overall good to very good; accompanied by a stock tooled leather holster in overall good condition. This lot includes a factory letter confirming features except stocks “Not Listed” and indicating the gun was shipped to A. Baldwin & Co., New Orleans, Louisiana on August 20, 1902 in a shipment of 50 guns; also a letter from noted Western author and collector, Lee Silvaindicating he has known of this gun and holster for years and was able to purchase it in 2007. Mr. Silva further states the inscription appears to have been on the gun for a long time. He notes further that
