Interesting 19th century clip point Bowie knife, probably by New England swordmaker, possibly Ames, Roby, etc. The knife measures 14-3/8” overall with 8-1/2” clip point blade. The blade shows a unsharpened false edge and is made without blood grooves and is of medium weight. The blade shows light to moderate erosion with some pitting and some minor flaws in the casting of the steel. The crossguard is cast brass with floral ornamentation on the back side and the pommel is a cast American eagle head. The hilt is turned hardwood with a reddish color. The condition is good to very good with uncleaned patina on brass. Wood gripped handle shows some openings in the grain with some small chips and normal aging. A very interesting American Bowie knife that is probably made by a manufacture of eagle head swords, dated approx. 1830-1850. Est: $900 - $1,800
