Inscribed U.S. Springfield Model 1903 NRA Sales Bolt Action Rifle

This is a very fine condition Model 1903 Springfield Armory NRA sales rifle as manufactured in 1915. These N.R.A. marked sales rifles were issued/sold from Springfield Armory, prior to WWI to qualified NRA members through by the DCM. Most were sold as early target rifles and with the advent of WWI all sales were stopped in late 1916. This very nice example has the standard receiver markings and serial number, with the exposed section of the barrel marked: "SA/flaming bomb/12- 1". It has been personalized by a previous owner by having his name and state engraved on the left sides of the rear sight base, as follows: "JAMES G. PARKER/CONCORD MASS./U. S. A.". The rear sight is the standard model with the 2,850 yard volley notch, with the concave/dished windage and elevation knobs. The bolt is marked with the steel lot code "C 6" on the underside of the safety lug. The front tang of the trigger guard is stamped with "N.R.A./flaming bomb" to denote it was sold through the DCM. It has a standard straight grip, walnut stock with grasping grooves, with one reinforcing bolt, a "J.S.A." cartouche on the left wrist, a circled "P" proofmark on the underside of the wrist and a checkered steel buttplate.
