Inscribed Colt Model 1849 pocket percussion revolver, .31 cal., 6” octagon barrel, blue and case hardened finish, wood grips, #157728. This gun is in overall very good untouched condition showing approx. 30% scattered original blue finish on the barrel with the balance gone to a dark plum brown patina; the cylinder shows the same plum brown patina and considerable cylinder scene; the frame, hammer and loading lever show the faintest traces of case color mixed with a dark patina consistent with the rest of the revolver. The bore is very good, the action crisp, the markings very good and the grips are very good with considerable varnish remaining; the brass straps show a deep patina and the butt strap is hand inscribed “Wm W Wise”. A file accompanies this lot and includes information from the American Civil War Research Data base on a William W. Wise of the 21st South Carolina Infantry as well as copies of Wise’s National Archives records showing that he was a Private in that Regiment, and was wounded in action at Drewry’s Bluff, Virginia on May 16, 1864. Also with this lot is a great unmarked military style leather flap holster and heavy thin harness leather belt with brass buckle and plain brass decorative disc, all parts in overall good, untouched condition with only the flap tongue tab of the holster’s body missing.
