c1920s - This 18" x 17" black and white illustration is an early Ingersoll-Rand advertisement. The ad depicts two men operating what appears to be a large hammer drill, while a third figure pushes a mine cart in the background. The illustration is finely detailed, and seems like a photograph at first glance. This illustration is noted "378" in the lower right corner, and may have been part of a larger print that included advertising text and a description of the tool and company. Even cropped, this ad is impressive in its 29.5" x 26" frame and black matting. In 1871, Simon Ingersoll founded Ingersoll Rock Drill Company in New York. In 1905 Ingersoll-Sargeant Drill Company merged with the Rand Drill Company to form Ingersoll Rand. The company persists today as a major manufacturer and distributor of mining and milling tools. -61651
