For your consideration is this beautiful steel and silver inlay Indo-Persian Jambiya circa 1890s. A jambiya, also known as a shibriyeh in the Levant, is a specific type of dagger with a short curved blade with a medial ridge that originated from Yemen that have spread throughout the Middle East, the Arab world and parts of Southeast Asia. Each region has its own differences in the curvature of the blade; the Jordanian shibriyeh is typically not curved unlike the Yemeni jambiya. The jambiya handle often tells of the social status of the man who wears it. This jambiya is constructed of steel and is inlaid with silver. The handle shows nicely crafted designs with the inlaid silver, while the blade is protected with a wood and painted cloth sheath showing floral designs in yellow paint. The jambiya shows good condition overall with some wear present from its age and use over the years, but no signs of major damage or wear is present. The jambiya measures 12" L x 1 13/16" W x 1/2" D and weighs approximately 6 ounces.
