Indo-Persian 18th - 19th Century Jambiya Dagger
Included in this lot is an Indo-Persian Jambiya Dagger, circa 18th - 19th century. A jambiya, also spelled janbiya, jambya, jambia and janbia, also known as a shibriyeh in the Levant, is a specific type of dagger with a short curved blade with a medial ridge that originated from Yemen that have spread throughout the Middle East, the Arab world and parts of Souteast Asia. Each region has its own differences in the curvature of the blade; the Jordanian shibriyeh is typcally uncuved unlike the Yemeni jambiya. The jambiya handle often tells of the social status of the man who wears it. This jambiya is constructed entirely out of steel and features a floral designed engraving on both the blade and the hilt. Hilt has a museum-style inventory number at the top. Some of the engraving is fading.
The jambiya measures 11.75" long with the blade being 6.75" long, weight U6oz
