Indian War cavalry gear for post civil war period, circa 1870's-1880's. (1) Whitman Officers saddle Model 1879. Plate under seat marked "THE MELBACH SADDLE CO WARRANTED WHITMAN NEW YORK, USA". Hooded stirrups and cinch also marked "THE MELBACH SADDLE CO WHITMAN NEW YORK CITY". In aged condition with repairs made to strap. (1) Model 1874 saddle bags. With belly strap and liners. Black leather stamped "47". In aged condition with some cracking of leather, and minor oxidation of brass. (1) Headstall, reins, and bit. Shoemaker style bit marked "RIA" and has pair of "US" rosettes. Also includes unmarked watering bit. In aged condition with cracked leather, some mottling, light pitting and light surface rust to bit, and light corrosion of brass components. (1) Pair of horse hobbles, Model 1874. Stamped "E D3 CAV 86" on leather. Leather cracked and worn and metal has surface rusting. (1) Shelter half Circa Indian Wars period circa 1878-1885. With stains and tears. (1) Standard issue meat can circa late 1870's. Approx 8" long x 6-1/2" wide x 1-1/2" tall. Offset pull ring and fold up handle. (1) Drinking cup, Circa 1870's-1880's. With handle over seam stamped "U.S". In aged condition. Approx 4-1/4" diameter x 4-1/4" tall. (1) Lyon's picket pin. Model 1874. Metal construction, stamped but illegible. Aged condition with chip of metal missing from top. Approx 12-3/4" long. (1) Canteen with shoulder strap. Circa 1870's. Canvas cover marked "U.S" and "97 11 5"? Has cork lid attached with chain. Canvas cover is heavily stained, lid has surface rust and there is a dent near the bottom of the canteen. Also carry strap is torn and stained. There is a piece of metal where the carry strap is attached to the cover, and also the carry strap has a buckle for adjustments. (1) Nose feed bag. Circa Indian Wars period. Canvas with leather and metal components. The leather is stitched and also riveted to the canvas. Marked "U.S." Shows age, heavy staining, cracked leather, and damage to bottom of bag.
