Paithan is situated on the banks of the Godavari River and is just 55 kilometers from Aurangabad. It was once the capital of the Satavahana dynasty. It was also a sacred place and probably the reasons for running a mint there were similar to those of Toka. Most of the coins struck here have the word 'Adalat' written in the legend, which may refer to some kind of local standard. The British coin collector R. Jackson, in an article published in the British Numismatic Journal in 1910, described these coins as an issue of a private mint at Paithan.
