India, An interesting and rare pair of medals to a recipient of the Bene Israel community who took part in the early campaigns of the East India Company. The Persia clasp was the first one in the IGS-54 series that was awarded for overseas service to the British-Indian Army. The Persian war (Dec 1856-Apr 1857) was triggered by the annexation of Herat by the Persians and the British retaliated with a land and sea expedition. The first Victoria Cross to the British-Indian Army was awarded in this campaign. The 'Mooltan' clasp was awarded for the siege of Mooltan during the 2nd Anglo-Sikh war in 1848.49. Abramjee Israel belonged to the Bene Israel community whose members were recruited into the army of the Bombay Presidency. The 4th Regiment of Native Infantry was involved in the assault on the fortress of Mooltan.
