Mysore Kingdom, Tipu Sultan (AM 1215-1224/1782-1799 AD), Othmani or Mushtari/ Double Paisa, 22.90
grms, AM 1226/ 1797 AD, Minted at Nagar(Shimoga), Obv: A magnificent depiction of a majestic elephant
striding proudly to the right, its trunk and tail gracefully lowered, symbolizing regal strength, loyalty, and
discipline. Above the elephant flies a royal standard bearing the Persian letter "Te", with four oblique
strokes radiating from the corners — a mark of Tipu Sultan’s sovereign authority. Encircling the scene is a
complete circular line border, framed by a delicate dotted ornamental border, enhancing its elegance and
completeness. Rev: A beautifully composed Persian inscription in flowing script. The first line reads:
"Mushtari Nagar Zarab"- Struck this Mushtari at Nagar, Below, in graceful calligraphy, appears the date:
"Sanah 1226 Mauludi" Scattered across the field are elegant dotted rosettes, adding aesthetic charm and
balance to the layout.
A well-centered, sharply struck coin with deep, bold details and superb visual appeal. A minor reverse dent
does not detract from its Extra Fine+ grade. Exceptionally rare and desirable, this specimen stands out for
its strike quality, preservation, and elegance—an outstanding addition to any distinguished Mysore
collection.
