Rajadhara Manikya, citing Queen Satyavati, Gold Tanka, 10.67g, SE 1508, Obv: Lion facing to left, date below, Rev: Sanskrit legend in Bangla Script “Shri Shri Yuta Rāja / dhara Manikya/ Deva Shri Satyava / ti Mahā Devyau” in 4 lines (RB# 175). Very fine+, exceedingly rare.
Rajadhara Manikya’s reign was largely peaceful, barring one attack from the Sultans of Bengal which was repulsed. He devoted himself to religious ceremonies. His silver tankas are by far the most common of Tripura’s long coinage – however, the same cannot be said about his gold coins. They are extremely rare and only one or two have appeared in international auctions so far. They are the earliest known gold coins of Tripura.
