Nawabs of Cuddappah as vassals of Tipu Sultan of Mysore, copper double cash corresponding nearly to ¼ th paisa in Tipu's coinage system, Kharpa mint, undated, unpublished in major sources, 3.43g. Obv: Elephant facing right, crescent above. Rev: Mintname Zarb Kharpa.

Extremely fine, Very rare

The Nawabs of Cuddappah became vassals of Tipu as he extended the sway of his rule southwards into Tamilnadu as far as Dindigul. Rare issues, copying Tipu's innovative 'elephant' design, were struck during this period at Kharpa (Kadapa / Cuddappah), Tarpatri and Siddhaut. Of these, the issue of kharpa mint are probably the rarest.
