Maratha Confederacy, silver rupee, domains of the Kolhapur Chhatrapatis, Chikodi mint, M&W listed under misc. and unattributed T11, 11.21g.

Good very fine, Very scarce.

Rupees of this sort are referred to as 'Shambhu-Peerkhani' rupees owing to the additional mark of a Linga on reverse. Maheshwari & Wiggins, for reasons unknown have attributed these coins to the 'miscellaneous and unattributed' category. Although 'Shambu-Peerkhani’ rupees were struck at more than one mints, the attribution of this variety to Chikodi is pretty certain based on find-spot evidence. The mint was operated by a minor Desai family.
