Political figure (1746–1799) who served as the first Federalist governor of Massachusetts from 1797 to 1799. Three invitations issued to Increase Sumner, all on cards measuring between 3.75 x 2.75 and 5 x 3.5: a manuscript invitation from Governor John Hancock, May 18, 1791, in full: "The Governor's particular respects accompany this to the Hon. Increase Sumner Esq'r & the pleasure of his company to Dine with him at Faneuil Hall on Wednesday 25th inst. at 2 o'clock, to proceed from the Town House"; a partly-printed "Subscription Assembly" pass, February 28, 1792, in part: "Admit The Hon'ble Increase Judge Sumner & Lady, to the Assembly at Concert Hall, the Tenth Night, March"; and a partly-printed invitation card, in part: "Mr. & Mrs. Bagot request the Honor of Mr. and Miss Sumner's Company to Dinner on Monday the 14th Feb'y at 5 o'clock."
