In Porter's Mansion. Early letter, Aug. 26, 1861, Kings Brigade H.Q., Porter Mansion, 4 pp. "...Splendid home built by Commodore Porter of U.S.N., now headquarters for our brigade." Writes of his appointment, and General arriving. "S. Cameron, Sec. of War, has made many appointments from Pennsylvania...I wish an appointment as Col., Lt. Col. or Major...Attack on Washington, don't believe anything of the kind. We have too many troops here...This the Rebels know. They will not venture an attack...I wish they would. It would be a greater victory for us than any Bull Run affair was for them. King's Brigade now consists of 2, 5, 6 Wisconsin, 19th Indiana, 79th N.Y. Highlanders...." Original light folds, else fine.
