Impressive antique globe of the world with carved wood base and inlaid turning knob on top. The globe shows American patriotic motifs of flags, stars and Eagles. Along with many whimsical motifs such as giant clam, penguins, pirate flag etc. The globe is hand-painted shows some cracking along with natural aging and patina from being viewed and turned by many hands. The globe measures approximately 88” around and 46” in height. A recent article featured in the antique Digest on world globes mentions the vast increase in popularity in collecting globes like this due to the fact the world has changed so dramatically. A history student could easily date this globe as it shows a completely different world with Barbary States and two German colonies in Africa. We would approximate the date of the globe from 1870 to 1900. From a prominent Rocky Mountain area are dealer and auctioneer prominently displayed this in his gallery and would never offered for sale until his recent retirement. Est.: $2,500-$5,000.
