Impressive 1876 Ironstone Centennial Pitcher and Bowl Set.This Centennial was America's first venture into the world of expositions and fairs and it was no coincidence that it fell on our 100th birthday at the planned site in Philadelphia. Offering beautiful buildings, grand gardens and 13 acres of new fangled inventions, the souvenirs were often as elaborate as the fair itself. Unique in it's value as a souvenir of the 1876 Centennial but rarer still in it's outstanding condition, is this pitcher and washbowl matched set depicting buildings at the Expo. The very large 14" pitcher is highlighted with transfers in black on white, of the "Main Building" and the "Horticultural Building". The matching bowl, approximately 15" in diameter, pictures the "Main Building" and the magnificent garden in front. Both pieces are in near mint condition. We would challenge you to find one of this vintage that would be any better.
