Important San Francisco dress dagger by Will and Finck with one-piece carved walrus ivory hilt showing silver studs and silver-plated crossguard with original silver-plated-over-brass sheath. Measures 9-1/2” overall with 5-1/4” inch blade. This well-known dress dagger is pictured in the books Knifemakers of Old San Francisco by Bernard Levine, pages 15 and 68, and California’s Best by Brad and Brian Witherall, page 121. The knife is a stunning example and remains in original near-mint unsharpened condition. The blade shows a sharpened false edge and is near flawless with 3 small areas of minor spidering and minimal aging. The hilt is sculptured walrus ivory with line carving and is also near flawless with light patina and very slight original aging. This is the finest original condition and untouched Will & Finck dress dirk known to catalogers David Lennon and J. R. Gangel. A crown jewel of the Hayes collection in Gem condition.
