Important Remington Rolling Block New York State Contract rifle with Patent Model for the W.H. Elliot snail drum rotary magazine, .50-70 cal., 36” barrel, blue finish, wood stocks, #44 stamped on right side of receiver. This gun is in overallgood condition showing a plum blue toning to the barrel with three barrel bands that have been cleaned to bright; receiver shows some faint blue and mixed grey patina with scattered erosion and areas of pitting; bore is somewhat rough, actionis crisp, wood stocks are overall good with scattered wear and mars and a couple cracks to the left side of the butt stock near trigger guard; accompanying this gun is a metal snail drum device that is approx. 6” in diameter with a small brass plaque attached and inscribed “W.H. Elliot” and is attached to the left side of the receiver of the rolling block via two screws in the receiver that affix to a brass yolk arrangement on the side of the drum. Included with this lot is a handwritten note that states “Eddie – this is the “patent model” for the W.H. Elliot Snail Drum Magazine to carry 50/70 cartridges mounted on the side of the receiver of a New York State military rifle. I will send you copies of the actual patent
