consisting of Lincoln Borglum's diary, President Lincoln plaster sculpture and two piece dresser set. Son of Gutzom Borglum (1867-1941) "Carver of the Mountain", Lincoln was named after his father's favorite president and worked by his side on the shrine of democracy. After Gutzom's death, Lincoln oversaw the remainder of the project and became the first superintendent of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial from 1941 to 1944. Diary is signed in the front and begins January 3, 1944 and ends April 15th with entries about weather and visitors to the monument. Includes signed Lincoln Borglum provenance letter and copy of original auction sale bill when items were sold at Borglum ranch in 1977.
