Important, Extremely Rare Pair of Neo-Classical Salon Chandeliers, So-called "MontgolfiFre" chandeliers, gilt cast iron frames, in the shape of a balloon with a papier-mGchT gondola filled with figures, suspended on bevelled glass chains, each with four lights, with a central electric light fitted in the early 20th century, originally Louis XVI period, France, circa 1780/90, each 90 x 75 cm, as far as possible in original condition, with evidence of use and age. The brothers MontgolfiFre successfully completed the first manned balloon flight on 21. November 1783, but this was achieved using hot air. A few days later in December 1783 equal excitement was aroused by the flight of the first hydrogen filled balloon. Jacques Charles, the physicist, succeeded in carrying out a flight lasting over two hours, finishing with a triumphal flight through Paris. This balloon with its extremely decorative gondola was the model for this pair of chandeliers. (PZ) EURO 40.000 50.000 US $ 39.200 49.000
