Important Copy of the Book, "The Authentic Life of Billy the Kid". A very special example of Pat Garrett's book on Billy, with direct ties to the Old West. This copy is heavily annotated in pencil by Old West lawman, Jim East, who was a member of Garrett's posse that trailed and captured Billy the Kid and killed Tom O'Follard and Charlie Bowdre in November 1880. Laid into the book is a two-page letter from East to Judge Wm. H. Burges regarding Billy and the book, dated January 25, 1928. Pages 209, 221, 223, and index page xix are among the numerous annotations throughout. Some of the annotations make reference to the shooting of "Ollinger," and mothers and grandmothers of people such as T. O'Follard. He also writes, "No." quite often alongside the descriptions of certain events and underlines the event. The inside cover is signed "Wm. H. Burges, El Paso, Texas - December 31st 1927" in ink. First edition by The Macmillan Company 1927. "The Authentic Life of Billy the Kid, The Noted Desperado by Pat F. Garrett, Sheriff of Lincoln County, N. Mex. - Edited by Maurice G. Fulton" Hardcover, cloth, frontispiece loose.
