Important Colt SAA revolver belonging to William Warren Sterling, the only Texas Ranger in the history of the organization to have held every rank from Private to State Adjutant General; .45 cal., 5-1/2” barrel,blue and case hardened finish, custom period wood grips with carving of the Texas Star and Sterling’s personal cattle brand, trigger guard cut away, #248657 on frame and #331,894 on backstrap and trigger guard. This gun isin overall very good condition as period modified by this famous lawman; showing traces of original blue and case colors in protected areas with even wear from years of carry, overall good to very good bore, crispaction, very good markings. Accompanied by Sterling’s iron handcuffs and basketweave leather “jock strap” style holster and a large binder of documentation on the gun and Sterling’s life. This historic Colt SAA wasgiven by General Sterling to equally famous Texas Ranger Frank Hamer and kept by Hamer until he passed it to famous Texas collector Charlie Schreiner in 1955.
